Paper Mache Homemade Mustache

Before you begin check out the "How 2" video.  You will see that you can finish these within a couple of days. You could rush the drying time by placing them on really low heat like 100c degrees or set them in the sun.

Material Girls

Recycled Newspaper

Scissors

Stick or dowel

Paints and Brushes

Varnish

mustache 71 Cut your mustache out of a recyclable box or use thick cardboard.  Lay your stick in place and tape to your cut out mustache. This is your armature

2 Now you are ready to cover your armature with paper mache strips dipped in our homemade paper mache paste. You will need to apply 6layers of newspaper strips over the armature. After applying the strips you will set your armature aside and let it dry over night.

I recommend at least 6 layers for a sturdy prop, but if you need to add more than do so.

However many layers you add to your armature, you must let it completely dry, I'll say it again, completely dry before applying any primer.

3 Sanding, Priming, & Painting

Lightly sand your mustache prop and then wipe it clean with a dry rag.

I like to prime all pieces before adding acrylic paints. So you are going to paint white acrylic paint all over the prop, front and back letting the primer dry completely. Lightly sand again if need be.

If you like add a little shine with clear varnish in gloss or satin, and tie a cute ribbon on the end and your ready.

mustache 5Of, course paint your mustache however you like and let the good times roll. My daughter and I had a blast around the studio for a day or so with these mustaches and lips.
