We
will show you how to wade up newspaper into a ball and transform it with paper
mache into a Minion Stuart ornament for Christmas.
We
will add a few Stuart characteristics such as a goggle, antlers, big red nose and

Steps to Make Your Rudolph Stuart
1 Build Your
Armature
Begin by wading up recycle
newspaper into a ball, using masking tape to shape your bag of newspaper into a
Stuart head. Slide your ball into a plastic bag and begin adding features.
Goggle
Cut cardboard into a round goggle and tape into spot.
Use a piece of cardboard for a goggle band.
Rudolph Nose
Wade up newspaper and cover with masking tape. Tape
your nose to the edge of your goggle.
Antlers
Use cardboard to cut antler shapes and sturdy with
tp rolls. You can view this first hand in the how to video.
Add any features that you would like to see on your
Stuart at this stage, whatever makes you happy you put that in your world.
Once you have your Stuart armature ready you are
going to cover in paper mache paste and paper.
2 Paper Mache
1st Session
Cover the Rudolph Stuart with 3
to 4 layers of newspaper soaked in paper mache paste. Lay your paper flat onto
your Stuart armature and work out all air bubbles. As you continue to apply
layers of paper your Stuart will begin to take shape before your eyes.
Once you have covered your Stuart
with paper mache they must completely dry before
adding more wet paper mache.
Tip:
At this point check your Stuart ornament for weak spots if you do not find any
then begin painting but if he is not sturdy enough add more paper mache.
I
have a total of 7 to 8 layers of paper mache on our Stuart ornament.
2nd
Session
Paper
Mache: Cover
with 8 to 9 more layers of paper mache all at one time. Let it completely dry
before moving on to paint. After each session of paper mache your armature must
completely dry before moving to your next step.
If you need once the big Stuart has dried you can lightly
sand with sandpaper and wipe off before painting.
3. Paint Your Rudolph Stuart
Paint a white coat of primer paint
on your Stuart to give a white canvas for painting onto. We use white flat
interior house paint from the Family Dollar to prime our sculptures.
Once the base coat as dried paint
with acrylics anyway you like. Let all you painting completely dry before
sealing with varnish.
4. Varnish and Protect
You must seal your paper mache
pieces with varnish for protection. Varnish comes in a can in gloss or stain to
apply with a brush or spray can apply 3 to 4 coats and let it dry.
Follow the instructions on your
varnish to apply. We use Polycrylic Minwax at the studio to seal all our art.
5. Hanger and Ribbon
