Paper Mache Recipe and How 2 Video

Paper Mache Tips

You will need to cover the bottom of your base with one layer of newspaper strips.

Cover the top of your armature with at least 5 layers of paper mache paste and strips. You can always add more layers of paper to add strength to your volcano.

Five layers will not render a indestructible volcano project you will need estimated 10 layers of strips for a rock solid project.

Anyway cover your armature with 5 layers, test the armature for weak areas and add more strips to strengthen your armature.

Baking Soda Eruption

Fill each bottle most of the way full with water and a bit of red food color to create your red lava.

Water and Food Color

I use a empty bottle to mix my water, food color, and baking soda together and then use a funnel to pour into the mouths of my volcanoes. I then drop in my detergent drops for volcano effect.

Dish Soap

Add 6 drops of detergent to each volcano after you have filled it with your water mixture. The detergent will cause it to form out looking like lava.

Baking Soda

Add 4 tablespoons of baking soda to the contents for the small 16 oz. bottle and 8 tablespoons for the 2 liter bottle. (In the video I say the large bottle but what I have here is correct. I apologize)

Slowly pour vinegar into the bottle and Watch the eruption!volcano erupt

That was cool

The chemical reaction between the baking soda and vinegar caused your volcano eruption. In this reaction, the carbon dioxide gas is produced; pressure builds up inside the plastic bottle until the gas bubbles out of the volcano. This is a pretty good demonstration of what happens in real volcanoes, so cool.
